Cyberbullying

There is a new kind of humiliation in schools these days--bullying on the Internet. Children are using the anonymity of the Internet to harass other children, spread cruel rumors, and sometimes even threaten physical harm. This Report to Parents from the National Association of Elementary School Principals provides some guidance.

THANK YOU, SCHOOL FOUNDATION!

On behalf of all Talladega City School employees, I would like to thank the School Foundation for the grants, the manner in which they were awarded, and the magical Foundation Dinner. It was wonderful to see so many people recognized and made to feel appreciated.

We APPRECIATE YOU and your efforts to improve our schools. All Foundation members are to be commended, especially President Jeanne Rasco. Helen Keller said it best..."Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." Together we are all moving this district FORWARD!

Thanks!

Dora and DIBELS

To motivate students to do their best during DIBELS testing, Dora made a surprise visit to Raymond L. Young! She visited each kindergarten, first and second grade classroom to wish them good luck.

Special thanks to Dora for motivating our students!

Salter's Annual Tradition

Last Friday, students and teachers had a little fun with Mr. Cobb and Coach Darby. It was reward day for hard work by students and teachers. Students get to earn the opportunity to do something to Mr. Cobb and Coach Darby each year when certain goals are met. This year students chose to make human sundaes out of the unlucky duo. The second choice was a dunking booth, but one could not be found. Mrs. Griffin decided to use water balloons instead! Needless to say, Coach Darby and Mr. Cobb were messy and sore after the event.

Graham's 4th Grade Visits Vulcan

Ms. Pinson's class observes limestone, coal, and iron ore which are the raw materials used for making iron and steel.

A model of Vulcan's leg that you can see inside the museum.

Vulcan overlooks Birmingham from atop Red Mountain.

Ms. Hollingsworth's and Ms. Pinson's classes enjoyed our trip to Vulcan. We learned a lot about the Birmingham steel industry. We would like to thank Honda for providing us with the opportunity.

C.L. Salter Archery Team Particpates in State Tournament

Talladega's first archery team participated in the Archery in Schools State Tournament today in Birmingham, Alabama. The students earned the right to represent C.L. Salter practicing for weeks during P.E. and winning the local school tournament. The top 15 shooters were chosen to take part in the tournament today. When entering the BJCC the students were excited and nervous about the number of students at the event, but quickly settled down at the practice range. Coach Darby led the students to their shooting lanes and the competition began for our students. The students did a great job and represented Talladega well. As we discussed the happenings of the day we decided that we would be implementing more exciting programs for our students. Seeing the students get excited about learning is what it is all about!
