College Day Tuesday at THS

Talladega High School’s annual College Day will be held Tuesday at 1:30 P. M. in the gymnasium. Representatives from colleges around the state will be in attendance. Students in grades 11 and 12 will be allowed to attend the program. Parents of these students are urged to participate, according to guidance counselor Janice M. Shephard.

“We have always had strong participation from colleges and students in the past. We are hoping a great number of parents can participate,” Shephard said.

“The main focus of the day will be to get information directly to students and parents concerning colleges, universities, military and employment opportunities. Such information will include the application process, financial aid and scholarships. Students will be given information on how to enlist in the military and what is available in the area of employment,” she said.

“We feel that it is important to talk with parents as well as students. In some cases the information is not reaching the parents,” according to Shephard “We like to cover scholarship information early before the deadline dates,” Shephard said. Some of the colleges already confirmed to participate include the University of Alabama, Alabama State University, Alabama A& M University, Tuskegee University, University of Montevallo, University of North Alabama, Jacksonville State University, Central Alabama Community College, Southern Union Community College, University of South Alabama, University of West Alabama, Faulkner University, Auburn University at Montgomery, Troy State University, Jefferson State Community College, Talladega College, Berea College and many others.

Various branches of the Armed Services will also be present, as well as, a representative of the State Employment Office.

Make plans to attend this important day!
